My Two Cents
Ryland Brown, Blue Ridge Christian Church, Fletcher, NCThroughout the Bible we find preaching. Peter preached from Joel and the Psalms on the day of Pentecost and 3,000 were saved. In Acts 8, the Holy Spirit led Phillip to find an Ethiopian eunuch reading from Isaiah and tell the eunuch about Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 2:3-5 Paul wrote, "I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power."
What do we find in all three instances? We find the preacher being confident in the content of the message, not the creativity of the way it's proclaimed. I love it when preachers are creative and use unique tools to clarify Scripture. But there is a danger of making creativity the main point instead of Scripture. Study the Word! Preach the Word! Let the Word go and then watch a demonstration of the Spirit's power!
